“Frozen”

“Frozen”

I am a big avid fan of survival challenges and stuff like that. I always love watching people on TV getting chased and running for their lives. Weird isn’t it? But believe it or not, it really made me feel this certain excitement and thrill while watching it, every time it gets to the point of chasing.
Now, I have here a movie, entitled “Frozen”, which I found really interesting as well. As far as I remember, the first time I watched it on the cinema, I almost cried due to some of its’ intense content.

At Mount Holliston, snowboarders Dan Walker, his girlfriend Parker O'Neil and his best friend Joe Lynch don't have enough money to buy lift tickets. Parker bribes Jason, a lift-worker, with one hundred dollars. When the system is nearing closure, they force Jason to let them have one last pass. However, Jason needs to resolve a problem and his colleague misunderstands his instructions and stops the lift. The trio of skier and snowboarders gets stranded on the chairlift near the top of the mountain. When they see that the lights of the ski resort had been turned off, they need to make a choice: leave the chairlift or freeze to death. And from this, starts their awesome, intense, and deadly journey. Making the long story short, Dan died, since he jumped off from the cable car which is approx. 100m high. He broke his leg-bone in a gross manner, that his legs really get inverted, and his bones snapped out real loud as he fell down when he broke his legs. But that is not what killed him. What killed him is when wolves smelled his blood, roam around him, and eventually attacked him, and ate him. Joe on the other hand, tried to escape the cable car by climbing the cable, but unfortunately, he find himself too heavy, and the cable itself seemed snappy, so he didn’t continue, scared that they may just be devoured by the wolves if ever they fell down. The next day, the cable car’s cable snapped out, and so, they fell. They tried to escape, but unfortunately, Joe died, and only Parker survived in the end. Honestly, I really don’t know how should I demonstrate the exact events in that movie through this, but I guess it would be better if you just watch it yourself and maybe, you’ll get what I’m trying to say. Trust me it’s not a waste of time and money, really.

Frozen is a type of “Plain Movie”. Well, a person can get stocked on a cable car and have the same situation as the characters’. But unfortunately, there are THESE some things that are a bit far to reality.

·        * Running while in a Panic Attack
·        * Jumping in a 100m high cable car normally
·        * Having no cellphones at all

First, Running rapidly while in a Panic Attack. What is a panic attack anyway? Panic attack is a certain feeling, wherein, people would get this urge to feel that something wrong or terror would happen. What are the different symptoms of a Panic Attack? According to an article written by Joseph Goldberg (April 26, 2012), here are the possible symptoms of Panic Attacks:
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * "Racing" heart
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Feeling weak, faint, or dizzy
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Tingling or numbness in the hands and fingers
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Sense of terror, or impending doom or death
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Feeling sweaty or having chills
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Chest pains
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Breathing difficulties
·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   * Feeling a loss of control

If you are suffering from the symptoms above, do you think you can even run and defend yourself when such thing happens? Normally, if a person gets stocked to a specific situation, he/she will be shaking and may actually feel some difficulties in moving much, or even to control his/her actions.

So going back to the movie “Frozen”, how do you think can the characters feel such freedom in moving without even feeling any panic, while in the first place, anyone who gets trapped in the same position must actually freeze due to nervousness?

Second is jumping in a 100m high cable car. No matter how normal or crazy a person is, if he/she got trapped in such situation, he/she will never jump in such height. It’s like jumping in a building for a belief that by doing so, you can actually live. According to my self conducted survey, 23 out of 25 would never jump into such height. The remaining 2 said that if they no longer have a choice, then they’d just be killing themselves instead by jumping over it, because living would just make them suffer more. I asked the 23 people who answered that they will never jump into such height, if what would they do to survive if they won’t jump? Some of them say that they’ll just climb off through the cable itself, and some says that they’d wait for help. Some say that it’s better to just stay there and do nothing than to kill yourself or break a leg in a helpless manner by jumping in such height. Regardless if you think it can save you, well obviously, it won’t. Unless you’re a superhero, but you’re not.

Third is having no cellphone at all. In our generation nowadays, cellphones are most likely to be already part of our everyday life. Normal people bring it everywhere they go. That’s why, it is somewhat impossible to think that not even one of them brought their cellphones. If only one of them left his/her phone, that may be quite realistic, but considering that all of them doesn’t bring their phones in case of emergencies? That must be a big joke.

Those are just “some” of the plenty unrealistic parts of movies where people actually don’t notice most of the time. It’s understandable that the writer/director intends that to happen, but still, if you are going to think of it really deep, then you would be ending up with these conclusions. Seems tricky, isn’t it? But tricky enough to fool people without letting them know about it.

“127 hours”

“127 hours”

Have you ever wondered what would happen, if you get trapped to a specific life and death situation? Like for example, being trapped in a specific desert island, with no water nor foods to eat? And in order to survive, you must drink your own urine, or else you’ll die of thirst? Or maybe, be chased by a huge group of lions, and in order to survive, you need to kill them all. These are the questions that pop up into my mind at times, leading me to curiosity.
While I was too busy looking for a good “survival movie” through the net for my research, I remembered a movie which I’ve watched before. It was entitled “127 hours”. This survival movie is an extremely terror, yet a very inspiring one. It was the most intense movie that I’ve watched so far, so I guess it would be a real interesting topic. So, here’s the story…

Aron Ralston, an optimistic and independent mountain climber who sets out one day to embark on one of his many adventures. Completely alone, he hikes around a canyon in Utah and enjoys himself. However, he makes one small slip that causes a boulder to fall onto his arm and trap him inside the canyon. His attempts to free his arm are fruitless, and he spends the next five days isolated from anyone else as he contemplates his life and past, lamenting about not letting anyone know where he went. He captures himself on the video camera he brought along, talking to himself and saying endearing messages to his loved ones, as he was already ready to accept his fate, which is – DEATH. But after capturing the said video, he realized one thing. If he will be rescued, or if he won’t be, he’s still going to lose his arms. So what’s the point of still having it, and getting stocked there because of his hands being trapped over a boulder? That’s why he decided to cut it instead, while he can still do so, or else, he’ll die. In this part of the movie, you’ll see how burdened Aron is for cutting his own arms. As you are watching it, you’ll feel his pain, grief, and regrets. Aron created some hallucinations while trapped, seeing images of his loved ones and family.

127 hours is a true to life story of Aron himself. Therefore, it is a form of “TRUE-TO-LIFE STORY RENDERED AS MOVIES” type, which basically means, having the same concept of a true to life and a real movie. The concept of Aron, cutting his own arms is somewhat too intense. And some people may doubt if it is really a true to life story. Well, who among you guys would cut an arm if you get trapped in the same situation as Aron? Or maybe, my question should be, what would you do so if you get trapped in the same situation as Aron’s? Because me, honestly, I’d rather die than see myself, and devour the pain while I, myself, is staring at my arms, being cut by me as well! That’s ridiculous! And never in my life would I do such thing.

Going back to the “concept”, what am I trying to pertain here about the concept of the movie, is that, in movie’s we can actually make the impossible things turn to reality. Incredible acts, which is sometimes too good (or may be too bad) to be true, which makes it unbelievable, can actually be seen there. In short, in movies, everything is possible, no matter how complicated could that be. Unlike in real life, which is vice versa. Wherein, impossible things will remain impossible as it is.

In this case, it’s almost impossible for a man to actually get stocked in where he was back then, and unfortunately having a double misfortune, tapping his own hands in a boulder. And making it triple, needing him to cut his own arms in order to survive. But as you can see, it was rendered as a movie; therefore, it is labeled as a “TRUE-TO-LIFE STORY RENDERED AS MOVIES”.

INTRODUCTION:

INTRODUCTION:

Movies... What are movies? As we all know, some movies are based on a real life event and some are just a picture of the script-writer, or the director’s creative thoughts and imagination. However, regardless of what or where does a specific movie’s stories are based from, it still has a big connection to a real life phenomenon or even to real humans itself.
But wait, have you ever noticed a BIG difference when it comes to a movie itself, and when it’s compared to a real life phenomenon? Let me give you a hint. In a specific movie, entitled, “Iron Giant” (though it wasn’t actually a survival movie) the iron giant can actually jump into the water, considering that it is a robot. Which is, in reality, cannot get too much exposure from water, for it is being manipulated or controlled through electricity. And by doing so, it may be destroyed or malfunction. This is just an example though, but my point is, in real life, we can actually see real life robot! But the fact is it can never have taken a bath, nor have a feeling which Iron Giant had in the movie. Meaning, it is somewhat realistic in a little point, but in behalf of it, it is already a pure fiction.

This thing happens in most of our films/movies nowadays. And in this article, I will be giving some examples of movies which, I found, quite unrealistic though it uses some parts of it which happens to exist in real life. But to be specific, I’ll be choosing the movie genre, “Survival/Thriller”. Because in such genre, almost everything in it is quite realistic, and if the viewers would be asked after watching such shows, most of them may not probably see some unrealistic stuff in it. Well, to make things clear, I’m talking about pure Suspense Movie here, not those which have a touch of science fictions or horror in it.

Oh, by the way, there are 3 types of movies as an anonymous author says,
·         TheTRUE-TO-LIFE STORY RENDERED AS MOVIES
·         TRUE TO LIFE
·         PLAIN MOVIE.

The following will be discussed as we go through the next blogs, per article.

The entire blog was made, most especially for the readers, of course. But specifically, it is intended most for future researchers, movie enthusiasts, and of course, for all sorts of human being, since I know, everyone who watches movies, regardless if they’re an avid fan of any kinds of movies or not, I know they can relate to this topic.
